Only cars built as racing cars are shown. Between 45 to 56 racing cars were built, depending on source and probably on counting customer-built Group 5 special chassis.
Totally 456 BMW M1 cars were built during 1978 and 1981 including street cars.
In 1979, totally 79 cars were built, 38 for racing, other 41 as a street cars. In 1980 and 1981, 188 cars were built each year, 18 of those were built for racing
